Cytrus band has made its way into the history of the Polish rock not only as one of the most interesting groups of the 1980s, but also as one of the most unlucky ones: during their existence none of their work was released, even a single. This is a pity, because they proved to be excellent in their instrumental incarnations, and, later on, in their hard rock version, with Kazimierz Barlasz as the lead singer.

The first tracks of Cytrus – a band from the Polish Three Cities – glittered with brilliant instrumental parts of guitars, the flute and the violin. When some years later, Kazimierz Barlasz (known also from Exodus and Mad Max bands) joined the group, musicians decided to look for a new formula for their music. That’s when they recorded in radio studios a series of immersive, and sometimes challenging tracks, full of energetic guitar sounds by Andrzej Kaźmierczak, flute brio performances by Marian Narkowicz and quite memorable melodies. The material was not released on disk – unfortunately, because it could have made for a truly successful LP. Now, we are filling in this gap.

“Raj utracony” is the second album (after “Trzecia łza od słońca” of 2018) with archival records of Cytrus band featured in the catalogue of GAD Records. The release presents a complete set of studio recordings with Kazimierz Barlasz.

Cytrus zapisał się w historii polskiego rocka nie tylko jako jedna z najciekawszych grup, jakie pojawiły się w latach 80., ale też jako jedna z najbardziej pechowych: nie doczekali się w czasie swojej egzystencji nawet singla. Szkoda, bo sprawdzali się zarówno w swoim pierwotnym, instrumentalnym wcieleniu, jak i późniejszej, hardrockowej odsłonie z śpiewającym Kazimierzem Barlaszem.

Pierwsze nagrania trójmiejskiego Cytrusa skrzyły się od instrumentalnych popisów gitar, fletu i skrzypiec. Gdy kilka lat później w składzie grupy pojawił się Kazimierz Barlasz (znany także z zespołów Exodus i Mad Max), muzycy rozpoczęli poszukiwanie nowej formuły dla swojej muzyki. Nagrali wtedy w radiowych studiach szereg wciągających, nie zawsze oczywistych utworów, pełnych energetycznych gitar Andrzeja Kaźmierczaka, fletowych popisów Mariana Narkowicza i zapadających w pamięć melodii. Nagrania nie doczekały się wówczas dokumentacji płytowej – a szkoda, bo spokojnie mogły wypełnić naprawdę udany LP. Nadrabiamy tą zaległość.
